A cellist since the age of nine, Texas-born Rebekah Hood-Sava, migrated throughout the nation, exploring violin, cello, flute, and piano for several years before settling into serious study on the cello. Through a childhood of movement, Rebekah found her solace in music, pursuing formal study in a Bachelor’s and Master’s at the Hartt School (Hartford, CT) with Dr. Terry King in 2005 and a Graduate Performance Certificate in 2007 at The Longy School (Cambridge, MA) with Terry King(cello) and Laura Bossert (violin/viola). Rebekah won the Miami String Quartet Competition and performed with the MSQ in 2005. In addition, Rebekah has worked with Joseph Kalichstien, Pam Frank, Charles Castleman, Bill Pruceil, Terry King, Laura Bossert, Pam Devenport, Liz Arbus, Brian Ganz, Amit Peled, The Pacifica Quartet, The Emerson Quartet, and The Miami String Quartet.

Rebekah studied Suzuki Pedagogy with Pam Devenport completing her Long term teacher training in 2001. Additional training with Nancy Hair, Rick Mooney (on cello) and with Liz Arbus, Ed Kreitman, and Mark Mutter (on violin). Rebekah taught a handful of students as a teenager and assisted her father administratively in Metroplex Suzuki Players in Dallas, Texas. After training, Rebekah taught Suzuki lessons for The Music and Arts Center, The University of Connecticut Community School of the Arts, The Powers Music School, The Suzuki School of Newton, The Music Stream Center, North Valley Suzuki, and The Foothills Community Music School. In 2010, Rebekah started the Veridian Symphony and String Quartet with Helen Graham. Together they aim to create a Suzuki and music community in the Northern Valley and foothills, along with providing a high level of musicianship and music accessible to all people.

As a classically trained cellist/violinist, Rebekah brings her vast experience with rhythm to filmmaking. Over the years, she became involved in different roles in her husband’s film projects: from production assistant to writing, music supervisor, and assistant editor, until she produced their short documentary “A Californian Original” in 2018. Recently, working together, they wrote, directed, and produced “Not If, But When: Wildfire Solutions,” a 40-minute documentary designed to change our attitude towards fire. She is now exploring writing music for films and commercials as well.

After enjoying years of performing, founding Veridian String Quartet, and Suzuki teaching in the classical vein, Rebekah found her own voice with her solo debut, Emerge, an exploration of the private emotional world that exists in one’s own mind and spirit. The Stepping out of this inner world and blossoming it into being, as if coming out of a cocoon, ready to harvest the musical ideas and creativity within. Rebekah is now working on her next album.
